Born in 1964 and raised in Argentina, Rosario Varela studied graphic design at the University of Architecture in Buenos Aires and at UCLA.
In 1989 she moved to the United States where a transition began towards the study of fine arts while also delving into photography and furniture making and restoration.
Rosario Varela's work generates out of a steady search for the enigmatic in a universe where the unexpected is a crucial element. Given her curiosity and passion for various mediums, her pieces may range from organic and gestural in style, which is inspired by and established in nature, to precise and organized relationships as her commentary on interdependence.
Beyond the subtlety and ambiguity of her abstract work lies an organization that stems from her graphic design background as well as her appreciation of architecture, pattern, and textile design.
